Pine DevBlog #5 - Jars and Jumps

This week's blog is a little bit more art-heavy! On the tech and design side we kept on developing our terrain and streaming system, and designed some low-level world stuff that we'll share soon. However, there are a couple of cool assets we can't wait to show you!

On the art-side of the terrain-side, we are working on a few tests for the base structure of the island that we can later sculpt in detail in Unity. We're trying out different mountain styles, for example, to see what fits the mountain area best.



We also kept working on the two species we're developing from scratch. One of them is a very cool guy that we can't wait to put in the game:



This is a fox-like species that had to evolve, because their famous wit was not enough to survive on the island. Instead, they focused on making gadgets and tools to thrive. They can throw jars with substances, little bombs, roll powder kegs and confuse you with smoke bombs! We're trying to make him use tools without it ever looking high-tech.

We've also added a new shot to our presskit, which was vastly updated - check it out in high-res here!



Lastly, we're working on a much requested feature that everyone could have seen coming! We can't wait to use this ingame, as it will make traversal so much more fun. We present to you: the jump!
